What is a Dental Crown?
Dental traumas, root canal infections, and severe cavities are unfortunate reasons for dental damage, but it doesn’t mean that your smile needs to suffer. Crowns can help teeth that have experienced decay or injury become strong and beautiful again. Usually made of porcelain, these “caps” look and feel just like enamel, so even you may not be able to tell which tooth was damaged in the first place. A crown can even be used to complete a single dental implant!
What Is a Dental Bridge?
If you’ve have missing teeth, you may find yourself embarrassed about speaking, eating, and smiling. A dental bridge is a prosthesis that is custom-made to fit your mouth and fill in gaps from tooth loss. It consists of three or more crowns fused together and is placed either by attaching the outside crowns to neighboring teeth or being anchored to a couple of dental implants. At the Manahawkin dental office of Dr. Young, we have the skill, experience, and dedication to ensure the process for your dental bridge goes smoothly.
What Are the Benefits of Dental Crowns and Bridges?
Although they can be utilized in different scenarios, crowns and bridges share many advantages, including the following:
- They resemble the crowns of natural teeth.
- They are made from a ceramic material, which reflects light just like enamel.
- They keep the remaining teeth from moving out of proper alignment.
- They are made specifically to fit within your mouth for a seamless look.
- They enable you to eat and smile without feeling self-conscious.
What Is the Process for Getting a Dental Crown or Bridge?
Before we work on ordering your dental crown or bridge, we need to take care of any necessary preliminary work. This may include extracting a tooth, root canal therapy, and/or removing some enamel to make space for the crowns. Then, we’ll take impressions of your teeth and send this information to a dental lab. We’ll place temporary crowns until the more permanent ones are ready. At that point, you’ll return to our dental office, and we’ll bond the crown or bridge in place.
